While Everton spent a lot of money over the summer to reinforce Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, their January window seems like it could be a bit more frugal.
That doesn’t mean they aren’t interested in bringing anyone in, as there are some good deals to pull off, such as the free transfer of Sami Khedira.
The German midfielder, currently still contracted to Juventus, is looking for a way out from Turin, and while it’s widely expected that he’ll be allowed to move on a free, he’d rather find his next destination before cancelling his contract.
This means he’s holding a few interviews, and was in England on Wednesday, according to BILD, in order to do so.
The German outlet said there wasn’t a favourite in the race, but Corriere dello Sport on Thursday strongly disagree.
The Italian newspaper look at Juventus’ ins and outs in the coming month, and explain Khedira ‘seems to be heading to the Premier League’ before adding in brackets ‘Everton is in pole position’.
To us, that sounds like the Toffees are firmly leading the race to sign the veteran midfielder, who would bring added experience and composure to Ancelotti’s squad.
Add to that the fact he’ll likely be free, and you’ve got yourself a great deal.
