In their Wednesday edition, Portuguese newspaper A Bola said Sergio Oliviera is on the market, but without a destination.
Another Portuguese newspaper, Record, have it differently. They claim Southampton have offered €4.5m for the midfielder, and that may convince the Portuguese side, but there’s another issue.
That’s because according to Record today, Oliveira has no intention of joining them. The player seeks ‘another kind of project’, which in other words, would be a club who would fight for titles.
Even though players from abroad are generally attracted by the Premier League, this would not be Oliveira’s case, who’d rather play for a more competitive club somewhere else.
The player is currently training with Porto’s reserve squad and not part of the club’s plans anymore. Southampton seemed to be a good way out for him still in January, and as reported by Record, the decision hasn’t been taken yet.
It just looks a bit foolish to wait for the perfect prince to rescue him. The stance of not wanting to join Southampton seems so foolish, that it’s hard to believe it’s true.
