Nicolai Jorgensen’s potential January transfer was a complicated situation.

Newcastle United were understandably, and predictably, playing hardball and trying to sign the striker for less than he was worth.

Feyenoord, who wanted a premium because it was a January transfer, set a deadline for Newcastle to come back in with a third and acceptable offer… but they didn’t.

It was stressful enough to cover, so for the man himself it must have been a difficult situation. The transfer circus seemed to have an impact on Jorgensen’s form for the Dutch club and some media and fans were left asking questions about where his head really was.

Speaking to Dutch newspaper AD, Jorgensen has explained how difficult it all was for him: “I have always said that I am happy at Feyenoord and that is still true. But the way it all went around the interest of Newcastle United, caused me a lot of stress afterwards. I do not want to experience that again. It took the focus away from what I prefer to do: play football.”

Jorgensen doesn’t sound up for a summer repeat of the transfer strife, and Newcastle may well have other targets now anyway, but he’s not ruling out a move.

When asked if he’ll still be playing for Feyenoord beyond the summer, Jorgensen said: “Nobody knows what will happen in the future, right? I’m not working on it either. First the final, then finish the competition and the World Cup. In the past few weeks I have already felt better.”
