Loaned to Fiorentina last season, Lucas Torreira was meant to stay in Florence, as the Serie A side were supposed to buy him permanently from Arsenal.
However, some drama took place between everyone involved, and the player was sent back to the Gunners, who eventually sold him to Galatasaray.
In doing so, the Uruguay international put an end to a four-year stint with Arsenal, who initially paid €28.65m to acquire from Sampdoria.
They only recouped €6m of that from the sale to the Turkish side, but they will be glad to have been rid of a player they no longer had any use for, all the while giving him a competitive environment to play in.
Torreira has since been called up by his country to represent them at the World Cup, and ESPN Uruguay had a chat with him where he talked about his move away from Arsenal.
He said: “There was a lot of uncertainty, a lot of anxiety, nervousness too. It’s true that I did have many options and in fact, after the great season I had at Fiorentina, my wish was to be able to stay in Italy, but we all know that in football, everything can change very quickly.
“The call came from Galatasaray, and the help from Fernando Muslera also, who was very important to me when making this decision, because it was quite important to think about the future, knowing what was coming.”
During his time at Arsenal, Torreira represented the Premier League club 89 times, scored four goals and assisted his teammates on six occasions.
