Vurnon Anita will spend the rest of the season on loan at Willem II.
The Leeds United owned player perhaps feels he could have been given more of a chance at Elland Road, and when he moved from Newcastle United he won’t have thought the next step would be Willem.
A return to the Eredivisie may only be temporary, it will all depend on what happens between now and next summer, but Anita has explained why he simply had to leave Leeds.
Insinuating that he was ready to stay and fight for his place under Marcelo Bielsa, Anita is quoted on Willem’s official website as saying: “At the beginning of this season, I learned at Leeds that I wouldn’t be able to count on playing time. So I went to look around and finally chose Willem II. It feels good to be loaned for a year and to play football here.”
Given he hasn’t been playing much, or at all this season, for the Championship club, the 29 year old doesn’t feel he’s yet ready in full match fitness and that’s something which may take time.
The Willem loanee said: “An entire match is still too early for me. I have to build my rhythm in training sessions and more and more minutes. I cannot wait to play for Willem II! “
