Fenerbahçe’s Dutch winger Jeremain Lens has addressed the reporters at the team’s training camp in Antalya. Lens was asked about his future again and the Dutchman had some interesting things to say about the matter.
Lens said: “Of course it’s my wish to stay here beyond the season, but as I’ve said before it doesn’t all depend on me. There is Sunderland, who own my rights, and Fenerbahçe, my current club. So of course, they must reach an agreement for me. If it happens, I’ll gladly stay at Fenerbahçe.
“This is a big big club, you can see the organisation level here, it’s very high. I’m an ambitious man and I want to win trophies, I used to do that while I was playing in Holland and the Ukraine and now here at Fenerbahçe I have another chance to win titles, this wasn’t the case at Sunderland.”
Lens’ future is in doubt as the Fenerbahçe board fear they might lose him due to FFP rules. The Turkish club have offered Emmanuel Emenike and Gregory van der Wiel to Sunderland in order to get Lens, but Sunderland boss David Moyes swiftly rejected bringing in the pair.
Lens was asked about this, and the Dutchman said: “Yes, it’s hard to negotiate these days I’m aware of that. But I’m sure if they (Sunderland) are relegated, things will be much easier for me to stay.”
It seems the Fenerbahçe board’s No.1 priority for the summer window to sign Lens permanently from Sunderland. It’ll be interesting to see how things evolve in the coming months and whether Sunderland are prepared to lower their €8m asking price.
