Jesús Vallejo arrived at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2019.
The centre-back joined Wolves on a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid. However, his stay at Molineux was cut short in less than six months after he struggled to feature regularly for the English side.
Vallejo’s short spell with the Wanderers came to an end in the winter 2020 market, after making only seven appearances in all competitions, which included only one start in the league.
The Real Madrid owned player was allowed to join Granada on a loan deal, and earlier this year his temporary stay with them was further extended until the end of this season.
Vallejo left out Nuno Espírito Santo’s name when El País asked him about the coaches who have had an impact on him.
Regarding his time in England, he said: “I trained like most, took care of myself and was prepared. But they didn’t give me much explanation. There was something back there I couldn’t figure out. I’ll never know. So, I changed clubs to be surrounded by a healthier environment. Coming to Granada has been the best decision in recent times.”
After the move was cut short, Nuno Espírito Santo made it clear the loan deal “clearly didn’t work out”, and the defender’s desire to play regular football convinced Wolves to end his time with them.
“It’s based on reality, he had moments that he played, moments that he performed well, and some moments he didn’t perform well. That’s the case of Vallejo. Clearly it didn’t work out,” Santo said about Vallejo in January.
“When things don’t work out, you have to look at yourself as coaching staff, how can you make things work for the best? Sometimes you don’t have time, it’s three parts – you, the player, the clubs, all these things.”
