Earlier this year, Manchester City found a deal with Coritiba for the signing of Brazilian fullback Yan Couto.

The 18-year-old was supposed to join Pep Guardiola’s first team squad in the summer, but due to the Coronavirus pandemic, he was stopped from doing so.

Yan Couto was then sent to Girona, where he’s having a loan spell until the end of the season. But according to the player himself, he could still join Manchester City in the January transfer window.

“I have a Portuguese passport and I do not enter the foreigners’ quota,” Yan Couto told ESPN Brasil.

“If João Cancelo is sold, I have the chance to return to Manchester in January. But it’s something that you cannot know and it’s not up to me. But if they need me, I can come back easily.”

These quotes have been released by ESPN Brasil today, although most of the interview had already been published by them earlier this week.

In the first story, the youngster had revealed that he was also wanted by Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but was then convinced to join Pep Guardiola’s side.

He also talked about his first meeting with the Manchester City boss, besides the chats with Brazilian players and the friendship he’s built with Fernandinho.

All of that put to one side, Yan Couto will be in for a shock when hears how the new Brexit rules may impact him, regardless of having a Portuguese passport or not.
