Manchester City’s move for Palmeiras defender Vitor Reis is now in the ‘document exchange phase’.
That’s according to journalist André Hernan, who reports that Reis is ‘already saying goodbye’ to his Palmeiras teammates.
The journalist follows up earlier reports from today that Manchester City had finally struck a deal with Palmeiras for the highly rated defender.
UOL reported that there had been a new development in Manchester City’s pursuit of the defender. According to their information, the Premier League champions had seen their proposal for him accepted by Palmeiras.
That bid was between €30-35m and would see Reis move in January. Palmeiras had continually stated that they wanted to keep him for the Club World Cup in the summer.
Hernan now backs that up, reporting that it is a ‘done deal’ for Reis. According to his information, the two clubs finally settled on the structure of the deal today and only final details were missing.
He adds that the deal will not reach €40m, the price that had been consistently stated as Palmeiras selling point. Instead, is it being done for €35m and the clubs are now exchanging documents. Reis is also saying goodbye, and, presumably, preparing to travel to England.
There is also a caveat to the deal. If Manchester City sell Reis in future for a fee over €60m, Palmeiras will automatically earn €5m.
Palmeiras saw the proposal as ‘irrefutable’ and so have reluctantly accepted, despite reports from Brazil making it clear that they did not want to sell to Manchester City this month.
