Thiago Alcantara is the new darling of Liverpool.
Signing for the Reds at the end of last week, he made his debut for Jurgen Klopp’s side on Sunday. Despite giving a penalty away to Chelsea, it was a good performance from the Spaniard and it left fans excited over what is to come this season.
Right from it being announced Thiago wouldn’t be renewing with Bayern Munich, it seemed clear Liverpool was his choice. That rather than Klopp having to chase the signing, it was Thiago himself who was keen on the challenge of playing for the Premier League champions.
Cadena Ser now report Barcelona made an attempt to scupper the Liverpool signing.
Thiago was recently in the Catalan city, and Barca used the opportunity to hold a face-to-face meeting with him. Javier Bordas, an official for the La Liga club, met the midfielder and ‘tried to convince’ him to return to the Camp Nou.
Whilst the footballer listened, it’s made clear he’d pretty much decided Liverpool was the club for him, regardless of who else came in.
Even if he had plumped for the Blaugrana, the transfer would have been very difficult, with Barcelona only able to pay €10m.
