As the Portuguese media continues to talk about Matheus Nunes’ transfer from Sporting to Wolverhampton Wanderers, we keep getting more details on this move.
The latest update on the case comes from journalist Pedro Sepulveda. He writes that following the midfielder’s positive answer to the Molineux side, he already said goodbye to his teammates in Lisbon and is flying to England ‘in the coming hours’.
Meanwhile, newspaper Record is another one with more details on that move. They state Wolves’ bid had been ready for two months, however, the deal had been stalled due to Nunes’ rejection.
The player had a day off on Monday, but it’s said he stayed ‘with an eye on the phone’, as it rang several times to ‘guarantee that his answer was definite’. Once he said yes, the clubs carried on with the process.
Nunes was making €400k net per season at Sporting, and according to Record, he will make ‘at least’ six times more in his contract with Wolves.
The pay rise certainly helped, although the newspaper insists that the 24-year-old was also convinced by Bruno Lage, who despite not having the Champions League to offer, managed to tell Nunes how great it’d be for him to feature in the Premier League.
