Catalan newspaper Sport gets a little carried on Tuesday and appears to have published a story which is a fairytale for Barcelona fans.
There’s been lots of odd claims around the Barca media over the past week or so, with it seeming like they’re following some kind of directive to help the Blaugrana set the scene for their summer business.
Today, it involves a fairytale which brings in Newcastle United and Aston Villa.
Sport claim Bruno Guimarães leads Barcelona’s list of wanted midfielders. They also like Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz, but it’s his compatriot at Newcastle who is preferred.
Hansi Flick would find him ‘perfect’ for his brand of football, and the next bit is where it gets very questionable… Sport claim Guimarães is ‘crazy about leaving Newcastle’.
Now, it’s not too hard to accept that the midfielder wouldn’t turn down a move to Barcelona, but it’s quite a leap from that to say he’s crazy about leaving the Magpies.
Any opportunity he’s given, Guimarães talks about how much he loves the club and life in the area. He doesn’t sound desperate to go at all.
Given how questionable the claims are around the Newcastle player, similar could also be said for the Aston Villa man.
Regardless, unless something major changes, Barcelona can’t afford either.
