Last summer, we saw Oriol Romeu leaving Southampton for Girona in a €5.5m deal.
After seven years at St. Mary’s, the Spaniard chose to return to his home country and try a new adventure in La Liga.
It turns out that as written by Sport today, the midfielder has been doing great since his departure from Southampton.
Romeu is called the ‘rock’ at Girona, as he became a leader for the club ‘on and off the field’.
It’s said the 31-year-old arrived at the Spanish club expected to make immediate an impact there, and that’s exactly what has been happening.
With his goal scored at the weekend, he found his second this season, which is the same record he had at Southampton in 2021/22. He’s also highlighted for being the third most used player at Girona this season, and helped the team to stay away from any battle against relegation.
In fact, the club are now closer to a place in European competitions than to that danger zone. And that has to do with Romeu’s leadership, as he’s an ‘authoritative voice in the locker room’ and also brings that confidence when speaking to the media.
By looking at Southampton at the bottom of the Premier League table, the Spaniard is probably glad of the choice he made… Saints likely aren’t.
