Seen as a great prospect when he arrived at Tottenham at a young age, Jonathan De Bie never quite managed to break through at the club.
Spending four and a half years at Spurs, the now 20-year-old left the club back in February for RWD Molembeek in the Belgian second tier, where he made his debut at the weekend.
Playing Club NXT, the goalkeeper didn’t keep a clean sheet as the game finished 1-1, but he certainly enjoyed the experience, with it announced he would see off the campaign in between the sticks with four games to go.
Either way, the player has put Tottenham behind him now, although he’ll never forget the experience he gathered and the people he met during his time in London.
Speaking to DH, he said: “They were an important four and a half years of my life. I left to go there at 16, a bit immature and anxious about what was going to happen. I didn’t speak a word of English. It was also a human experience. I only have good memories. I met incredible people, whether it be staff or players. Being alongside world class players for four and a half years was a privilege”.
It also made him hungry for more, aware he would have to drop down the leagues to get regular football.
He’s done that, and is starting to play, with just one goal in mind: “I know where I want my career to go and I know the path I need to take to make it”.
During his time at Tottenham, De Bie never made an appearance for Spurs’ first-team, only featuring for their U18s and U23s, as well as the U19s in the Youth League.
