Coming off a rather disappointing loan spell at Crystal Palace, Albert Sambi Lokonga needed somewhere else to get some minutes, eventually ending up at Luton Town.

It was a bold move for the Belgian midfielder to join a newly promoted side, but there was clearly something that convinced him, which he has now revealed was Rob Edwards.

The 24-year-old gave a lengthy interview to DH in Belgium about his summer and career to date, where he discussed what happened behind the scenes in his Luton move.

He said: “The day before the window closed, the Luton manager called me and said he wanted me in his team. He came round, we had a chat and that was that. I felt a great deal of confidence straight away. It boosts a player to be considered like that. He explained to me what he wanted to put in place and I bought into it straight away.”

Unfortunately for Lokonga, his start to the season at Luton Town was cut short by an injury he is still recovering from, hoping to return at soon as possible.

That’s why he has only made two appearances to date for the Kenilworth Road side, who most recently lost 4-3 in the very last minute to the midfielder’s parent team due to a Declan Rice header.

Luton currently sit 17th in the Premier League after 15 matches, two points above Everton in the relegation zone, who have one game in hand.
