Sebastien Haller has revealed it was ‘very nice’ to know he would be reunited with former teammate Sean Klaiber when he swapped West Ham United for Ajax in January.
Haller left West Ham at the beginning of the January transfer window, bringing an end to a dismal 18-month spell at the London Stadium.
He had been West Ham’s record signing when he arrived in a £45m deal from Eintracht Frankfurt back in July 2019.
He managed just 14 goals and three assists in 53 games for the club after that, though, leading them to sell to Ajax for £20.25m.
The return to the Netherlands was not quite what Haller would have predicted for himself at this point, with the move to West Ham very much one that was supposed to push his career forwards.
Instead, he finds himself re-establishing himself with the Dutch giants, something which has been made easier thanks to the presence of an old friend, Klaiber, at the club.
“We have known each other for a long time, and at Utrecht, we immediately had a good relationship,” he told Ajax TV, relayed by Voetbal Primeur.
“I think that’s because we have a lot in common. What we do, how we look at things, the mindset that we have. Our families are also very close.
“When I came here, it was very nice to know that he was already playing at this club.
“I was also sure that he would be happy with it. We will be friends for a long time, that’s for sure.”
