Four days ago, Manchester United completed the signing of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and he’s signed a five-year deal, with an option for another year.
On Wednesday, the Red Devils put out his first interview as a Manchester United player.
It wasn’t his only interview yesterday as YouTube channel Broederliefde also had a chat with the 23-year-old, and his comments are relayed by Voetbal Zone.
The striker hadn’t made his debut for the Netherlands before Ronald Koeman included him in the squad for the Euros. He made his national team against Turkey a week before he moved to the Premier League side.
“I had an interview in Wolfsburg. My father was there too, because he’s everywhere. After that conversation I immediately had a good feeling, then the choice had actually already been made,” he said.
The Dutchman insisted that Manchester United felt it was best for them to wait until after his national team’s Euros campaign before completing his signing.
“The Euros was No.1 anyway, United also thought that was important. That focus had to be there. So that was doable,” Zirkzee explained.
The attacker wore the No.11 shirt at Bologna, a number currently held by Rasmus Højlund at Manchester United.
When asked about his preference at Old Trafford, he said: “That depends a bit on Rasmus Højlund. He’s already there and is also a striker. No. 9 is free, but hey… He has 11, so I imagine he wants No. 9 now. In that case I’ll take 11. At Bologna I also had 11, so it doesn’t really matter to me.”
