Jeremie Boga was repeatedly linked with a move to Leicester City in the last two transfer windows.

Claims coming out of the Italian press towards the start of the January window said the Foxes had returned to sign the forward after having failed in their efforts last summer.

Amid reports of Leicester’s interest, Atalanta decided not to let go of the 26-year-old in the last window.

Their decision was relatively made easier after he managed a goal and five assists from six matches in January.

Still, it seems Leicester never stood a chance to secure the winger’s services due to the stance maintained by the Italian club.

This is revealed by the player himself during an interview with L’Eco di Bergamo, where he insisted Atalanta had made this clear to him.

“In the winter transfer market, the club told me right away that they didn’t intend to negotiate and that I would have more room to play. I felt confidence, I understood that I had to repay it,” he said, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Ivory Coast international joined Gian Piero Gasperini’s side on loan from Sassuolo in January 2022 and his stay there was made permanent last summer when Atalanta reportedly paid €22m to buy him.

Asked if the price tag distracts him, Boga explained: “No, I’ve never let myself be distracted by these things. I didn’t want to leave because I knew I hadn’t done what I came to Bergamo to do yet.”
