Manchester United are showing interest in Cerro Porteño’s Diego León.
Earlier today, we covered multiple claims from South America which stated the Red Devils are in talks with the Paraguayan side for the left-back.
It was also reported Cerro Porteñ vice-president Juan Carlos Pettengill neither confirmed nor denied Manchester United’s approach.
The 17-year-old came up through the ranks of the club’s academy and was promoted to their first team earlier this year.
Cerro Porteño have qualified for the 2025 Copa Libertadores and León wants to represent them in the continental competition. He revealed this during a chat with Deportes Uno, who also asked him about the Manchester United links.
“I have a huge expectation to play the Libertadores 2025,” he said.
“I’ve seen about Manchester United’s enquiry about me, but I don’t know anything. My representative handles everything.”
The Paraguayan is therefore aware of Manchester United reportedly showing interest in him.
Meanwhile, club vice-president Juan Carlos Pettengill has been asked about approaches made for the young defender. Universo 970 AM journalist Oscar Lial has taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to relay his comments.
“If there were several surveys for some of our players, they asked about Diego León, our jewel but nothing formal,” Juan Carlos Pettengill explained.
It’s not made clear whether “they” are several clubs or Ruben Amorim’s side.
León has made 19 appearances so far for Cerro Porteño’s first team.
