As Willian is leaving Corinthians in a quite controversial departure, Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola today shares some news about the process.

The story claims the winger will need to ‘return money before transferring to Fulham’.

Willian had a contract with Corinthians running until December 2023, and according to Nicola, his salary was equally shared between the club and their sponsors Socios.

It turns out that the company paid all of their part in advance. So with the player leaving the club leaving so long before the end of the deal, he should give them back £1.8m.

Willian is then set to become a free agent, being able to join Fulham for free.

That’s a reason for some criticism from Nicola, who claims Corinthians should’ve sold him instead.

“For me, Corinthians’ leaders are wrong to release him for free. ‘Oh, but he arrived for free, Nicola’. Fine. But if Corinthians wanted to release him, would Willian agree to give up everything he would receive?”

Even though many outlets in Brazil claim Willian is agreeing a move to Fulham, we’re still to see some details regarding his deal with the Craven Cottage club.

The most interesting information this week was that he’ll be travelling to London on Saturday.
