Burnley, Crystal Palace and Leeds United have all been encouraged to make a move for KAA Gent’s Archie Brown, with the player himself keen on moving to England.
Transfermarkt’s Belgian website have an interview with the left-back today, in which he is asked about a future transfer and the interest from Burnley, Crystal Palace and Leeds in particular.
Brown currently plays for Gent after joining them in a €4m move from Lausanne-Sport in August 2023. He had joined the Swiss side from Derby’s U23’s on a free transfer in 2021 after coming through the Rams’ youth set up.
He’s been a regular in Belgium since his arrival, with 85 appearances to date and three goals and ten assists to his name in all competitions.
That’s seen the 22-year-old linked with a return to England, where Burnley, Crystal Palace and Leeds United have all been credited with an interest in him.
All three of those will be Premier League sides next season, with Burnley and Leeds securing automatic promotion back to the top flight from the Championship this season.
Brown wouldn’t have been bothered if they hadn’t, though, admitting he doesn’t care about the top flight when asked about the trio.
“I just want to play football, and my qualities will take me where it takes me,” he said.
“I want to play at the highest level, but whether that is England or any other competition from the big 5… You know, I have been working abroad for a while now and it is not that I necessarily want to go back to England.
“I am perhaps one of the first players of a new generation of English players who see that there is more in the football world than the Premier League and has started working abroad. I think that was also very important for my development.
“As said, my qualities will take me where they take me whether that is the Premier League or anywhere else. Honestly, in the past I have paid too much attention to possible interest in me. That has not been good, and I no longer do.
“I also have a contract for two years at KAA Gent and I like to be here, so I don’t necessarily have to leave this summer. There are so many different factors that can change so I now just have to focus on what is happening on the field.”
