Lille full-back Zeki Celik remains a potential target for Tottenham, who had him as ‘one of their first targets’ for the summer transfer window.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who say Spurs ‘have not given up’ on the defender after showing an interest just a few months ago.
They explain that Celik is being courted by Europe’s big names, having continued to impress for Lille this season after their title-winning campaign last year.
Indeed, he is one of the most in-form players in Ligue 1, and that has not gone unnoticed by a host of clubs around Europe.
Atlético Madrid are one of the ones considering a move after being interested in the summer, and the same goes for Tottenham.
Celik was considered ‘one of the first targets’ to reinforce their defence, and they have not ‘given up’ on the possibility of bringing him to the club.
There’s no mention of an asking price at this point, although Lille were asking for €20m for him a year ago, and it seems unlikely they will have lowered those demands.
There’s also no mention of Emerson Royal, who joined Tottenham from Barcelona in the summer to fill the very position that Celik would be operating in.
Perhaps Spurs aren’t happy with the Brazilian and want a replacement, which we’d find surprising, or perhaps they want competition for him, although Celik would be an expensive purchase in that regard.
It remains to be seen what their intention is then, but apparently, the interest in the defender is still there regardless.
