Sepp van den Berg is ‘reluctant’ to stay at Liverpool this summer and be a squad player next season, with his eye firmly set on a transfer.
That’s according to Kicker, who report that the Dutchman is keen to move on from Anfield if he is not going to be anything more than a squad player.
According to their information VfL Wolfsburg remain in the mix for Van den Berg, who has earned himself admirers across Europe after impressing out on loan from Liverpool in Germany last season.
Wolfsburg are one of those in the mix as they need a central defender and may need to replace Maxence Lacroix, who has indicated he wants to move on in the final year of his deal.
Van den Berg is someone they’ve had their eye on for a long time and remains very popular among those in charge at the German team.
The defender has indicated he would be ‘reluctant’ to spend a season sat on the bench backing up Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahim Konate so is eyeing up a transfer this summer.
He is believed to want to stay in the Bundesliga and that’s given Wolfsburg hope they can get the 22-year-old, they’re also willing to sign him permanently if Liverpool agree to a transfer.
That puts them ahead of the likes of Mainz, who could only offer another loan deal for him after his time with the club last season.
It all depends on the Reds, though, who need to decide whether they want to grant Van den Berg an exit or keep him as part of Arne Slot’s squad.
