Angelo Fulgini is set to stay at Angers this month, despite Burnley having ‘positioned themselves’ to sign him this month.
That’s according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, who says the midfielder has not received the ‘hoped for project’ he was after, so has elected to stay in France for the time being.
Fulgini was first linked to Burnley at the beginning of December when a report in France indicated they were ready to put €15m on the table to make a deal happen.
That report made it clear Angers were happy to sell, and that was followed by a report stating that Burnley had ‘started’ their efforts to get him.
This was then followed by Angers chief Saïd Chabane making it clear they were happy to sell, and €15m remained the price they wanted.
Since then, there has been little on the Clarets efforts, if there were any, but Fabrice Hawkins now provides an update.
According to him, Burnley had indeed ‘positioned themselves’ for Fulgini, but he turned down their approaches. This is backed up by Ouest France, who say they were ‘pressing’ for his signature, but the midfielder wasn’t keen.
It seems he was hoping for a better project than the one they could offer him, so he will be remaining with Angers ‘unless the situation changes’.
That seems unlikely to happen, but Hawkins does predict he will be ‘one of the hottest files of next summer’, perhaps when Burnley and other suitors will return for another pass.
