On Wednesday, West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion target Mats Hummels completed a move to AS Roma.

According to Calciomercato, West Ham and Brighton were among several clubs who failed to sign Mats Hummels.

The defender left Borussia Dortmund as a free agent at the end of last season. This made him an interesting option in the market for many clubs, including West Ham and Brighton.

Last month, Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler had revealed he held talks with the 35-year-old. The Seagulls and Julen Lopetegui’s side were among 10 European clubs to have sent proposals to the German.

Calciomercato now state Hummels ‘rejected offers’ from these 10 clubs. In addition to this, the centre-back has also turned down approaches from Qatar, Saudi Arabia and MLS.

Roma have been successful in acquiring the former Bayern Munich man’s services. The Serie A side have offered him a deal until 2025, which as per Calciomercato, is worth €2m net per year plus bonuses.

Brighton finished the summer window without signing a new centre-back. West Ham, on the other hand, have added two centre-backs, Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo, to their squad.
