Alen Halilovic is set to be given the chance to kickstart his career with Birmingham City, thanks to interest from manager Aitor Karanka.
The 24-year-old was considered a wonderkid when breaking through with Dinamo Zagreb. There was thought to be great interest in him back then, including from clubs in the Premier League, yet when Barcelona came along the race for his signing was pretty much over.
Failing to get a chance at Barca, the Croatian played for the club’s B team, as well as going out on loan to Sporting Gijon. A permanent move to Hamburg didn’t go much better and the same can be said for AC Milan, who signed Halilovic in 2018.
After two loan moves away from the Rossoneri, the player came an agreement to terminate his contract in October and has been without a club since.
That’s allowed Birmingham City to swoop in, with Spanish newspaper AS reporting Halilovic has ‘rejected better proposals in Europe’ in order to sign for Karanka’s side.
Medical tests are said to have been completed already, and Birmingham City are ready to announce their ‘gamble’ signing.
