Łukasz Fabiański, Alphonse Areola, Darren Randolph and David Martin are currently the four goalkeepers at West Ham United and all of them are in their 30s.
The contracts of Fabiański and Martin will expire in 2022, although the former will likely extend, while Areola is on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. Therefore, it won’t be a surprise if the Hammers decide to look for a new custodian in the coming windows.
Last month, Sport reported David Moyes’ side are the ‘best placed club’ to sign Neto. He is a back-up for Marc-André ter Stegen at Barcelona and after spending time on the bench, the Brazilian ‘wants to go out’ in January.
That’s according to Fichajes.net, who state the 32-year-old wants to enjoy more minutes, to keep the hope of going to Qatar with the national team. To do that, he is open to joining a mid-table club.
It’s claimed Neto will have ‘various offers’ to leave the Camp Nou and one of the first to reach the keeper’s environment is from the Premier League side.
Fabiański has admitted he remains open to signing a new contract at the London club. However, that has not stopped Fichajes.net from stating that West Ham are ‘probing the market’ for a new No.1, to replace the Pole.
New Barca manager Xavi Hernández’s ‘intention’ is to let the South American leave and then have Iñaki Peña as Ter Stegen’s deputy.
With West Ham making a proposal to Neto’s environment and Xavi in favour of his transfer, it remains to be seen whether the keeper will be able to join the Hammers in January.
