Emerson Royal has had a difficult time at Milan, since joining from Tottenham Hotspur.
The Brazilian was the subject of a lengthy pursuit from the Serie A club, which went on for much of the summer. Originally, they wanted to get him for almost a token fee but Tottenham weren’t handing out gifts and a transfer was agreed for around €15m plus bonuses.
The full-back featured for the Rossoneri in their 4-0 win over Venezia and Calciomercato state that he really put in effort and had an impact on the match, even if his performance wasn’t brilliant.
However, it’s made clear the sentiment of fans remains harsh. They are skeptical about the defender and are yet to be convinced, given many of them didn’t really want him in the first place.
Calciomercato goes on to question the club’s recruitment and looks beyond the individual. The issue, for them, lies in the club strategy and they ponder whether Manu Kone could’ve been signed for a similar fee to Emerson, as Milan missed out on the Frenchman to Roma.
They believe, because they needed a midfielder more. That clearly isn’t Emerson’s fault but he appears to be the lightning rod for criticism since his move from Tottenham.
