A few weeks ago there were reports of a Celtic approach for Mitchel Bakker.
The 20-year-old signed for PSG from Ajax in the summer 2019 transfer window, and managed just over 400 minutes for the Ligue 1 champions as French football was brought to an early end due to the Covid-19 crisis.
Celtic were said to be looking to take the defender on loan, helping him get more minutes than he’d likely achieve in Paris. Neil Lennon’s efforts weren’t successful, and Bakker has now been quizzed on the situation.
Speaking to France Football, the Dutchman was asked if he’s considered a move this summer, with Celtic the only club mentioned. He appeared to completely dismiss the chance, saying: “I read about it in the media, it’s true. But not at all, I want to stay here. I am very happy at Paris Saint-Germain.”
So far this season, he’s made three appearances for PSG at left-back, playing the whole match in the recent 3-0 victory over Nice. Bakker has benefitted from the long-term injury to Juan Bernat as well as Layvin Kurzawa’s red card suspension, following the madness of the Marseille match.
