Argentine newspaper Olé today features a long story with some details of Carlos Alcaraz’s transfer from Racing to Southampton.
It’s claimed that even though the Saints had already been trying to sign the midfielder, it all happened very suddenly on Monday morning.
The player was preparing to start the training session with the squad, and got a call with an order not to take part in the works.
Alcaraz was told the sale to Southampton had been made, and he only had little time to say goodbye to his teammates and go to the Ezeiza airport, where he would take the flight to England.
It’s said the Saints had already made on Saturday an initial proposal worth €10m plus €1m in bonuses. This second attempt was for a €14m deal, with €3m in bonuses, and Racing keeping 15% of a future sale.
According to Olé, Southampton had already ‘notified’ Alcaraz’s representatives that they wanted him in the squad as soon as possible.
They claimed they need him quickly adapted to help in the fight against relegation.
Despite the Saints’ poor campaign, the player was reportedly ‘quickly tempted’ to make the move.
Not only because of the ‘financial leap’, but also due to the chance of playing in the Premier League where he can even ‘bet on moving to a bigger team’ down the line.
