Nemanja Matic announced ahead of the end of the season that he’d be leaving Manchester United this summer, with the 33-year-old then linked with a number of other clubs.
Early on it became clear that AS Roma were the club most keen, and Jose Mourinho wanted to be reunited with his former player.
With no transfer fee payable to Manchester United, it’s been a relatively easy deal for Roma to negotiate with the player, and has helped Mourinho secure one of the midfielders he wants to sign for the Italian club this summer.
Gazzetta dello Sport this morning picture Matic arriving for his medical to conclude a move to AS Roma. The Serbian will initially receive a one year contract and be paid €3.6m, a figure which will be after tax.
There’s also the option for that to be extended by a further season, depending on what happens in Matic’s first campaign with the Serie A club. Should he play half their matches then a renewal will be triggered.
The contract will be signed on Monday afternoon.
