Wilmar Barrios has been linked with a transfer throughout the summer, and with Colombia’s World Cup now well behind him those links have increased over the past week or so.

The Boca Juniors midfielder had been mainly pushed towards Tottenham, with several South American claims about interest from Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

But a couple of days ago Argentina’s TyC Sports changed all that by reporting: “It’s not Chelsea, it’s not Tottenham, it’s Everton.”

Now Clarin, a major daily newspaper in the country, also links the club. It’s stated Barrios ‘has an offer from Everton’. Unfortunately, it also states Boca are awaiting approaches from ‘big clubs in Europe’ which they don’t seem to think the Toffees are.

Despite Clarin headlining their article ‘Barrios stays’, the player is quoted as saying: “If an offer arrives, it will be discussed with my representative and the president, but I am left to play the Libertadores.”

That fits in with the TyC claims of Everton potentially agreeing deal to sign the player now, for less than his €18m release clause (other figures have been reported for that clause) and leaving him where he is until December.
