Junior Firpo, one of the standout players for Real Betis this season, is currently sidelined with an injury.
El Desmarque claims the 22-year-old could be heading towards the exit in the next transfer window as Manchester City and Real Madrid continue to circle.
He is an ‘object of desire’ for Pep Guardiola for next season and there is ‘strong interest’ from the English champions in signing the versatile player, who is primarily a left-back, but can also play on the wings and even in the centre-back position.
Despite the firm desire from the Etihad outfit, it’s claimed Junior is expected to join the Champions League winners after this season because they were the first to express their interest and the player himself is convinced to join the Spanish capital club.
The Betis player is currently focusing on his recovery, but is aware the La Liga side will need money for the future project and his sale could help them raise funds. Junior has a €50m release clause in his contract.
It’s worth nothing at this stage that reports earlier this week from Spain said Real Madrid could shelve the transfer idea, worried about the player’s repeat and similar injuries.
That would of course give more hope to Manchester City.
