On Monday we covered claims from Diario de Sevilla that Johnny Cardoso may not necessarily join Tottenham Hotspur if he leaves Real Betis in the summer window.
Spurs have an option to buy the US international for €25m, something they agreed with Betis when Giovani Lo Celso returned to the Spanish club.
The gist yesterday was that Betis may be able to get more money for the midfielder, even if they’d then have to give Spurs 20% of the difference. Wolves were said to have already offered Cardoso triple the salary he currently earns at Betis.
Tuesday’s edition of ABC Sevilla reports the 23-year-old is ‘not convinced’ about signing for Tottenham due to their poor domestic form. Unless Spurs win the Europa League they won’t be playing in Europe next season.
ABC Sevilla say the player is not committed to joining Tottenham and the decision will be his, that would surely mean he wouldn’t be keen on Wolves either.
There’s a hope his value could even rise to something like €40m, and there’s the chance of potentially keeping him around for a further season.
