Everton are now added to the list of clubs who are keen on Lille striker Jonathan David.
The report is brought by Sky Sport journalist Florian Plattenberg, who writes that the Toffees were ‘very interested’ in landing the player in 2023, but made no ‘concrete offer’ for the transfer.
A reason that Everton are apparently not moving for the signing now is that the player isn’t very keen on moving to Goodison Park, since Frank Lampard’s side are said to be ‘no option for the 23-year-old striker anyway’.
It’s claimed that the Canadian, who already has nine goals and two assists in Ligue 1 this season, is actually focused on joining one of Europe’s top 12 clubs.
Jonathan David has been linked to other, more successful, sides, and according to Plettenberg, a transfer next year won’t be cheap.
That’s because he’s secured by Lille until 2025 with no release clause in his contract, and the price demanded by the French side is said to be over €50m. So even if Everton decide to try a shot, that’d be a difficult signing.
