After his failed transfer to Birmingham City, Trabzonspor’s Ogenyi Onazi has told the Turkish media he’s fully committed to the club.

Birmingham City were on the verge of completing a €3.5m deal for the Nigerian international, and despite agreeing terms with both club and player, Onazi wasn’t granted a work permit.

Now looking for a return to the Trabzonspor first team, Onazi told Fotomac: “I’m not disappointed because I stayed at Trabzonspor. This is a great city for me and I really love the fans. I just can’t wait to wear my jersey and play for this brilliant club again.”

Birmingham City were showing a strong interest in signing Onazi earlier in the window, and Trabzonspor were also willing to allow his departure to fund their summer transfers.

The player also seemed keen on a move to England, despite only arriving in Turkey last summer.

It seemed Harry Redknapp would be adding the former Lazio midfielder to his Birmingham City squad, but due to work permit problems a move never materialised.
