Chelsea fans will be well aware by now that this season hasn’t gone to plan for Romelu Lukaku at Inter.
The Belgian striker returned to the Serie A side after a failed comeback at Stamford Bridge, but injuries have stopped him from having a similar impact to the one in his first spell there.
Initially sent back on loan for a season, there was hope from Inter’s end that he could stay for at least two, with many reports of some sort of gentleman’s agreement being struck with Chelsea to facilitate an extended stay.
However, his inability to stay fit and find the back of the net had put that in doubt, with claims starting to circulate that the Italians were having second doubts about him staying.
This clearly spurred the player on to prove them wrong, as he has now scored in back to back games, proving decisive against Udinese before scoring the winning goal against Porto in the Champions League.
These two goals have put a smile back on Inter’s face, and Gazzetta dello Sport explain that they have ‘significantly increased the chances of staying at Inter for a long time’.
He knows that the further he helps his team progress in the Champions League, the more money they will generate from competition revenue, which could go towards paying for his wages and such, but it’s also added that he ‘wants to be king of Milan again and has no intention of returning’ to Chelsea.
That’s because England is ‘no longer a beloved land’ for him, as he has faced ‘too many disappointments’ there and was made ‘too many broken promises’.
