As you might have heard, Ousmane Dembélé’s contract is up at the end of the season, and there has been a bit of drama in Barcelona’s attempts to renew him.

The player has made it clear he’d like to stay with the La Liga side if he could, but the offer hasn’t matched his ambitions, which allowed other clubs, among which can be found Chelsea, to take an interest.

The Blues were said to be sniffing around regarding a potential cheap transfer in January for the last six months of his deal, which could have been an opportunity to strengthen the attack, but it appears a move to Stamford Bridge isn’t on the cards.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who bring the latest on the situation, reporting a new meeting between Joan Laporta and the player’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, is expected on Thursday, and there is ‘no desire to leave this winter to Chelsea or anywhere else’.

That line comes from the tweet published by Sébastien Denis, who wrote the article on their website.

In said article, they add ‘there is little chance to see the former Rennes player leave by January 31st, not to Chelsea or elsewhere’.

As for the future of the winger in the long-term, we’ll have to wait and see, but there is a desire to renew, ‘but not at any cost’.

Therefore, the next meeting could be key, as a failure to find some sort of common ground could seal the player’s fate going forward.
