Romelu Lukaku will have to find a way to ‘disengage’ himself from Chelsea if he wants to return to Inter Milan this summer.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who cover the Belgian’s future today and say he is only thinking of returning to his former club.
They explain that while nothing can be taken for granted in the ‘complex dossier’ that is Lukaku’s future, every hypothesis remains open.
That means he could end up back at Inter this summer, but that will depend heavily on the striker’s ability to ‘impose his will’ on Chelsea, who are completely against any providing any discounts to their Italian counterparts.
It is because of this that new scenarios and possible moves have been brought up, with links to clubs in England, Spain and Germany all appearing.
One of those has seen him linked with Tottenham, but for that to happen ‘many knots’ would have to be unravelled, including Chelsea and Spurs finding their way beyond a ‘conflictual relationship.’
Inter will remain in the hunt, but the finances are difficult for them, with Chelsea unyielding in their stance.
They are currently demanding a €25m loan fee with an obligation to buy at the end of the season for €75m, a heft sum for Inter to pay, even with Lukaku willing to reduce his wages, which are €15m a year plus bonuses.
He’d be content to take half of that to return to Milan but will need to work out a deal with Chelsea to make it viable for all parties.
