According to a claim in the Belgian media, Aston Villa defender Ritchie de Laet will today have a medical with Royal Antwerp, ahead of his proposed move back to his home country.

The Aston Villa player has been linked with a return to his hometown club in recent days.

Gazet van Antwerpen have reported De Laet has been in Belgium since yesterday as he waits for Aston Villa to come to an agreement with Antwerp.

Today the former Manchester United defender will undergo a medical with the Jupiler league side, although it’s reported there’s still no agreement between the two clubs.

Yesterday we covered reports that Aston Villa are looking to loan out De Laet for the remainder of the season, as Steve Bruce wants the player to get some playing time.

The Belgian has suffered with injuries since arriving at Villa Park, and subsequently has dropped down the pecking order.

De Laet a hint yesterday he would welcome a move to Antwerp when he put he Belgian side’s crest on his Twitter account.
