The rumours linking Manchester United goalkeeper Joel Pereira to Benfica have got a little bit more serious in Portugal.
Although the Eagles’ interest in the youngster has been reported for a while now, Correio da Manhã comes up with a very relevant update, saying Pereira is expected to make a choice between the two clubs soon.
The newspaper claims he has a renewal offer from Manchester United in hands, but the opportunity to fight for a starting place at Benfica is something more realistic.
According to Correio da Manhã, Pereira has told Benfica he will make his decision after the end of the U21 Euro Championship. The 20-year-old would be using Ederson as an example of success at the Portuguese side, since, in a short period of time, the Brazilian was able to send Julio Cesar to the bench and become one of the most expensive goalkeepers ever.
Sporting CP and FC Porto are the two other clubs who are said to be interested in the Manchester United goalkeeper.
Jose Mourinho has spoken about how highly he rates Pereira, maybe he should rate the youngster highly enough to let Sergio Romero move elsewhere this summer.
