Monday was a very Romelu Lukaku heavy day in the Italian media, as the Chelsea striker looks for a way out from Stamford Bridge.
Unhappy with how the season went after his grand return to the club, the Belgian wants to go back to Inter if he can, away from Thomas Tuchel and co.
That is a complicated avenue, but one some in Italy believe is doable under the right circumstances.
What helps Inter in all this is the player’s desire, because all of this is happening ‘at the explicit request’ of the Chelsea striker, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who only has ‘one goal’: a return to San Siro.
To try and get the ball rolling, ‘there will be a first face-to-face meeting between the Nerazzurri managers and the new character who has appeared’, who is Sébastien Ledure, described as a Belgian lawyer and ‘above all the manager of the centre-forward’s interest in this confused period’.
The Serie A side already know him because he is also Stefan de Vrij’s lawyer, and he has taken over because there is currently a ‘polar cold between Lukaku and Federico Pastorello’, the man who took him from London to Milan.
It’s said the agent has ‘paid for some public statements and a different assessment of the player’s future’, while his mandate with the Chelsea man expires ‘at the end of June’.
This meeting between Ledure and Inter is set to take place ‘this afternoon’, and the topics discussed will only be ‘the relationship between the player and Inter’, wanting to see ‘whether the material and financial conditions for an agreement on a future contract really exit’.
Everyone is, however, aware that the real problems will likely arise when dealing with Chelsea themselves, where they will have to ‘digest some form of loan’.
Those in charge of talks also have some sort of ace up their sleeves, prepared to use the card that Lukaku has ‘kept the centre of his interests in Italy’, still owning three houses in Milan, which will help in ‘still obtaining the benefits of the Growth Decree’.
As explained on Monday, Inter would want this sorted ‘by the end of June’ to ‘facilitate the practice for the Revenue Agency’.
All in all, Lukaku wants to leave Chelsea, and the new man on the block, Ledure, is set to meet Inter on Tuesday afternoon for a first chat.
The rest? We’ll have to wait and see.
