Newcastle United youngster Santiago Muñoz is set to return to Mexican side Santos Laguna at the end of the year.
That’s according to Record in Mexico, who say Newcastle will not be taking up their option to buy the player.
Muñoz, who famously shares a very similar name to the character from the film Goal, arrived at Newcastle on loan in August last year.
The move caused a significant amount of hype because of that connection, with many Newcastle fans dreaming of the player recreating the success his movie counterpart enjoyed.
That has not happened, though, and it seems Newcastle are now looking to give up on the experiment.
Record report that the youngster is ‘losing momentum in England’, having been encouraged to move to St James Park in the first place.
He was convinced by his agent that the move was the smart one, but it is now a fact that Newcastle ‘will neither buy nor seek to renew his loan’ when it comes to an end in December.
In fact, Santos Laguna are ‘already expecting’ Muñoz to return to the club and see what they can do with a kid who has ‘lost eight months’ of development by ‘listening to the siren song’ of his agent.
