The Marcelo Bielsa connection is encouraging links between Jon Aurtenetxe and Leeds United.
Playing for Bielsa at Athletic Club Bilbao, the 26 year old spent last season on loan with Dundee United, and has now left the Scottish club with the end of his short term contract.
Aurtenetxe’s best career period has undoubtedly been under Bielsa in Bilbao, getting to the Copa del Rey and Europa League finals, and the links with Leeds therefore make some sense.
Friday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo also reports the player is currently looking for a club in the UK, and the only one they mention as a possibility is Leeds United.
There’s no claim of talks or any offers being made, but this would be an easy signing for Bielsa given Aurtenetxe is a free agent and wouldn’t request high wages.Even as a short term signing to help Bielsa get his message across, it may be worth consideration for both player and club.
