Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte on Friday featured a piece with interesting news on the future of Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho.
With his contract expiring at the end of the season, it’s claimed he’s not ruling out a return to his home country in the summer.
The report says the idea to play in Brazil is something he’s been working on for a while, and many clubs have been sending him offers.
Even though there are European sides in touch with his entourage, the desire to go back to Athletico Paranaense could be decisive for him.
“We’ve received several proposals, good projects from Brazilian and European clubs for Fernandinho. He’s a phenomenal player and person. I believe it won’t be long before he knows what decision he’ll make. Everyone knows that Fernandinho has a great affection for Athletico and the board. I, too, have an excellent relationship with President Mario Celso Petraglia.
“Conversations have always happened, but I can’t go ahead and say that we talk about values, for example. It hasn’t happened yet. I confess that it’s difficult to think of Fernandinho returning to Brazil and not playing for Athletico. But we have to wait, it’s a difficult decision, which he has to make with his family.”
Globo Esporte claims that Athletico are being ‘cautious’ regarding this signing due to the strong competition there’ll be.
The story doesn’t even mention his chances of signing a new deal with Manchester City, despite his importance for Pep Guardiola’s side this season. Last month, speaking to the Brazilian media, his teammate Gabriel Jesus said he knows what Fernandinho is doing next.
