For the past few days, various reports in the English press have stated Antony wants to join Manchester United this summer and will ask Ajax to listen to offers for him.
The winger knows Erik ten Hag well, having played under the current Red Devils coach at the Amsterdam club.
Ajax have appointed Alfred Schreuder as Ten Hag’s successor and he will lead his first training session today.
Algemeen Dagblad state Schreuder’s start is ‘surrounded by question marks’ since the club have not completed their first signing and a few players have set their sights on the exit.
The report says almost all Ajax’s Latin American players feel the ‘time is ripe’ for them to move elsewhere. The Brazil international falls into this category. It needs to be seen whether the Eredivisie winners will be able to retain them.
With regards to Antony, AD explain the 22-year-old ‘hopes for a reunion’ with Ten Hag at Old Trafford. However, the Premier League side are not ready to meet the Dutch club’s demands to carry out the deal.
De Telegraaf on Thursday reported Ajax chiefs, Gerry Hamstra and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, would prefer to put a ‘not for sale’ sign on some players, including Antony. However, they are aware every player in their league can be ‘bought for the right price’.
Ajax have no need to sell and will need a tempting offer to sanction his sale. They have slapped a €80m price tag on the South American.
This is also highlighted again by De Telegraaf today, and they insist that after allowing Sébastien Haller to join Borussia Dortmund, Ajax want to keep their squad intact.
That will only change if Schreuder’s side receive an offer that ‘cannot be refused’. For Antony, Ajax will need ‘at least €80m’.
