Nottingham Forest midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate could have made a return to former club Anderlecht, but his wage demands proved prohibitive to a deal.
That’s according to Sudpresse, relayed by Voetbal 24, who cover the situation around the midfielder today.
Kouyate had been a free agent after leaving Crystal Palace at the end of his contract this summer following a four-year spell at Selhurst Park.
He was linked with clubs around Europe, and it seems former club Anderlecht, who he joined in 2008 and left on a permanent basis in 2014, were also keen on a reunion.
Sudpresse explain they ‘wanted to attract’ the midfielder and there were even talks, but his salary demands ‘were too high’ for the Belgian side.
That stopped a move happening and he ended up at Nottingham Forest, who made him one of their numerous signings this summer.
Whether Nottingham Forest were willing to match Kouyate’s demands isn’t clear but given how they spent money this summer it’s easy to imagine that they were more that accommodating.
