On February 13th, we covered a report from Sport, who claimed that Manchester United are one of the clubs to ‘have asked’ for Ivan Rakitic of Barcelona.

The midfielder’s current deal runs down in 2021 and he’s demanding a new contract from the club, who are not willing to meet his demands.

Thursday’s edition of Sport talks about how important the midfielder is for Ernesto Valverde and they once again discuss the clubs interested in landing the 30-year-old.

The Red Devils get a mention as the report explains the Croatia international is on the signing ‘agenda’ of the 20-time English champions.

Another report from Sport claims the Blaugrana are calm and are of the belief that Rakitic’s exit from the club in the summer will not be ‘traumatic’.

In addition to this, the Spanish champions are also aware the former Sevilla star has a lot of suitors.

If Manchester United are serious about signing the player, they will have to face tough competition from other clubs to land Rakitic.

The price is put at €65m again, which seems unrealistic for a player who turns 31 years of age in March.

Cristiano Ronaldo may have shown huge fees are possible for over 30s, but Ivan Rakitic is not he.
