Vincent Janssen has insisted he doesn’t regret his time at Tottenham or his lack of an impact there, as he knew Harry Kane was much better than him.
Voetbal Primeur cover comments from the striker today made to Extra Time in which his time at Tottenham was part of the discussion.
He is currently with Royal Antwerp, the latest club in a wide-ranging career that’s seen him come through at Feyenoord and play for Alkmaar, Tottenham, Fenerbahce, CF Monterrey and now Antwerp.
The biggest move of his career was the switch to Tottenham, joining them in a €22m deal from Alkmaar in 2016.
His time at Tottenham would not work out, though, as he managed just six goals and four assists in 42 appearances before eventually being sold to Monterrey in 2019.
He was not helped by the presence of Kane, who was hitting his stride at Tottenham at that moment in time and managed 35 goals in 38 games in all competitions that season.
That left Janssen on the outside looking in as Kane continued to break records and establish himself as a Tottenham legend. The Dutchman, though, has no ill feelings on that front.
“In my years at Tottenham I never had the idea that I deserved more chances,” he admitted. “He was really just so good that you never had the idea that I was going to take his place.”
