The Portuguese press still can’t accept Porto have lost the race against Brighton & Hove Albion for a player.

Last week, when the Premier League side were agreeing a fee for Yves Bissouma, Radio Renascença had a funny story saying that was a ‘sign of times.’

Now that the midfielder has officially signed for Brighton, the Portuguese press are back at it, still claiming that Porto were close to getting him.

Newspaper O Jogo brings a story today saying Bissouma ‘gave his preference to Porto, where he could play the Champions League’.

However, ‘he ended up seduced by the offer from the English club’.

O Jogo also takes some quotes from the player’s agent to show that Porto really were involved in the negotiations, but then lost the race to the highest bidder.

As we’ve said before, we don’t see the Portuguese press complaining about English money when it’s Leicester City paying €30m for Islam Slimani or Stoke City paying €25m for Giannelli Imbula. So they shouldn’t be whining now.
